CHG

Chlorhexidine Gluconate, known as CHG for short, is a disinfectant and antiseptic commonly used to disinfect the skin before surgery and for sterilizing surgical instruments. CHG was discovered in the 1950s and is widely used in medicine including dentistry.

CHG can be purchased from most medical supply companies. Also increasingly popular are CHG wash cloths, which health care providers may direct for use prior to surgery.
